A Letter from Diane Peters - President of Spoke Blazers
I have been concerned about bicycle safety for a long time: from a mother’s viewpoint, from my own cycling experiences and from a driver’s perspective.
A good place to start is with the simplicity and purpose of Spoke Blazers®. They attach easily to a bike and they work when you need them to—when car lights are on in low-light situations. No need for batteries. No worrying about whether you remembered to put them on—once they’re installed, Spoke Blazers are on to stay. It’s common, of course, for anyone to be out riding longer than expected. But when the light gets dim, Spoke Blazers are ready to make the rider more visible to traffic. For safety and peace of mind.
Spoke Blazers should be used in addition to the lights and reflectors required by most states. Because they can be seen from any angle, not just from the front and back.
In today’s economy, people are riding bikes more often as a fuel-saving alternative. Of course, no one recommends using bikes during early morning or at night. But riding them to and from jobs often requires riding in low-light situations. And economical Spoke Blazers automatically make such a trip much safer.
If you drive, you’re sure to recall times when you’ve said, “I didn’t even see that bike.” Especially if the biker is wearing dark colors. But with Spoke Blazers on a bike, drivers are given time to avoid mishaps. And even if you’re not a biker yourself, you can help others become more visible by making Spoke Blazers available for their bikes.
Other safety tips a cyclist can apply to make riding safer:
- Be sure each bike is equipped with your state’s required safety lights and reflectors.
- Wear a helmet.
- Wear neon or bright colors.
- Add retro-reflective tape or markings on equipment or clothing
- Obey traffic safety rules of the road.
- Remember, even though you can see a car, that doesn’t mean the driver can
see you.

Bicycling is a fun, healthy activity. Let’s keep it safe.
Happy riding!
