Friends having fun on their bikes.    There Is a Need for Better Visibility for Bicyclists

Bicycling in low light situations is a major safety concern.  Bicycle injury rates are highest for children ages 5 to 15, while death rates are highest for adults.  Motor vehicle vs. bike accidents claim the lives of over 800 American bicyclists annually.  Studies show that 70% of bicycle related deaths in the U.S. occurred between the hours of 3 PM and 3 AM, 57% of these deaths occurred between 3 PM and 9 PM.

The most dangerous time to be riding a bicycle is between 6 PM and 9 PM , a time  when traffic is high and lighting conditions are low.  Drivers with poorer vision caused by age, fatigue, night myopia, vision impairments or the ingestion of medication, drugs or alcohol require more viewing distance to react properly.
